Media Lab Talks is the event to attend for Developers and anyone interested in media and tech. The talks will cover topics such as dev & tech, UI/UX, framework/methodology, market trends/insights, "forgotten technology", and radical innovations.
The first talk this fall will be:
Heads Up! Co-Designing Augmented Reality for Maritime Navigation
Exposure to the elements used to be a requirement for the maintenance of Situation Awareness (SA) and – subsequently – safe maritime navigation. The development of paper- and electronic charts has mitigated the need for exposure, but bear with them challenges concerning vessel positioning, attention diversion, and Head-Down Time (HDT). Augmented Reality (AR) shows the potential of reintroducing the lost submersion in the maritime context, whilst preserving the safety benefits provided by technology. In three iterations, an AR framework, called Sjør, was co-designed with end-users and developed for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 using the Unity Game Engine. The design and development process are disclosed, providing insights into how design thinking can meaningfully impact software development.
Presented by: Abel van Beek, Software Engineer, Vizrt
Since it's the first event of the fall we would love to invite the attendees to stay after the presentation for pizza and drinks to catch up after the summer holiday.
Venue: Media Lab, 9th floor, tower 3, Media City Bergen
The presentation will also be streamed on IBM.
