Media Provenance Summit

Published 28.10.2024
We've had an incredible experience at the Media Provenance Summit, hosted alongside the BBC at MediaCity UK in Manchester the 16 and 17 October.

The summits program included leading companies in media and technology, that have been sharing their experiences and solutions for a more transparent, efficient and secure future against disinformation. Especially trough implementing C2PA into their work, through Project Origin and Project Reynir.

Amongst others, we’ve heard Tim Forrest (ITN) speaking on provenance and disinformation, Judy Parnall giving a state-of-the-union update on Project Origin and C2PA, both crucial initiatives for securing authenticity in media content, and Helge Svela has been presenting and discussing the latest on Project Reynir.

Through insightful workflow sessions, we also explored how key companies such as Sony, Cutting Room, Wolftech, Vizrt, and mimir are showcasing innovative solutions in content production and publishing, and how they implement C2PA. Tackling the challenge around misinformation requires a multi-faceted approach, and we got to explore how these tech platforms can curb the spread of misinformation while ensuring transparency in their algorithms and operations.

We also learned how broadcasters such as BBC, CBC, and WDR are applying this technology to strengthen their operations, enhancing both content authenticity and workflow efficiency to ensure trustworthy news distribution across platforms.

The first day concluded with an engaging panel discussion on the challenges of implementation, trust lists, and the importance of education in fostering industry-wide adoption. We wrapped up with a hands-on session with C2PA technology, collecting topics for the un-conference, and valuable networking opportunities.

The last day we wrapped up with an un-conference, where we had valuable discussions and networking around future solutions for ensuring trust in the media industry.

Through presentations, in-depth discussions, and many thought-provoking questions, we left the summit with a clearer path forward for the future of Project Reynir and C2PA implementation.
